Chris Gencorelli enters his second season as an assistant coach at C.W. Post following a career at neighboring New York Institute of Technology in which he was a member of two national championship teams in 2005 and most recently in 2008. He will work with the offense and the gameday management of the midfield units.
In 2009, Gencorelli helped the Pioneers to a 15-1 record and a perfect 6-0 mark in East Coast Conference play. In 2009, midfielders Matt Dimler (First Team) and Mike Messina (Honorable Mention) were named All-America. The offense was the nation’s top scoring offense in 2009 and averaged 15.06 goals per game.
As an assistant, Gencorelli is a vital part of the team’s success. Gencorelli’s game day responsibilities will primarily be with the substitution area and his off-field duties revolve around his managing the equipment for the team.
During his junior and senior seasons at NYIT, Gencorelli was named caption for the Bears. In 2005 and 2008 his play helped NYIT claim NCAA national titles.
“Chris brings an abundance of energy to our program,” says Jez. “His hard work and dedication is unmatched. He has had an instant impact on our program and our athletics department. He is well liked by our players and is a role model for our student-athletes.”
During the summer, Gencorelli coaches the Long Island Express and continues to play in various summer leagues and tournaments.
Gencorelli is currently pursuing his master’s degree in criminal justice at C.W. Post. He resides in Merrick, N.Y.
