Football Celebrates Homecoming With 55-38 Win Over Millersville; Gwaltney Rushes For Four Touchdowns

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2008) – Sophomore tailback
Jason Gwaltney (North Babylon, N.Y.) led the charge with four scored touchdowns as C.W. Post defeated Millersville, 55-38, Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field on Homecoming Day.
Gwaltney carried the ball 20 times and amassed 156 rushing yards to go along with a 49-yard completed pass from senior quarterback
Nick Georgetti (Holbrook, N.Y.) in the game. For the Pioneers, it was the most points scored since Oct. 7, 2005 against Bentley College. The home team amassed 593 points on 69 plays, was 8-for-8 in red zone chances and held a 31-22 advantage in first downs.
Additionally, Georgetti was 17-for-20 with 263 passing yards.
Millersville struck first when it scored during its first series that began at its own 12. The Marauders pushed the ball downfield to the CWP 1-yard line before redshirt sophomore tailback Cardoza Jacks pushed his way into the endzone as part of an eight-play, 84-yard drive with 11:16 on the clock.
The Pioneers answered just minutes later when Georgetti found Harris for a 29-yard completed pass at 9:39.
The teams exchanged TD's later in the quarter with Cardoza rushing in an 18-yard score for Millersville while C.W. Post countered with a 1-yard run from Harris.
Senior kicker
Andrew Kroell (Baldwin, N.Y.) led off the second quarter with a successful 24-yard field goal to put the Pioneers on top, 17-14. The Marauders responded when redshirt sophomore quarterback Bill Shirk found and open Andy Tischbein for a 38-yard touchdown reception at 7:08 to put the Marauders ahead, 21-17.
With 2:53 remaining in the half, Gwaltney found paydirt on a 1-yard run and followed up with a 12-yard rush into the endzone with 24 seconds remaining in the first half.
Millersville closed the gap when Shirk completed a 54-yard pass to Jamal Smith with nine ticks left on the clock.
At the half, the Pioneers had tallied 299 offensive yards on 33 plays. The Marauders registered 268 yards on 35 plays.
At the start of the third quarter, the Pioneers scored the ninth touchdown of the game in their first series when Gwaltney ran in a seven-yard score to give C.W. Post a 10-point boost (38-28).
Millersville added on to its tally with a 26-yard field goal from redshirt junior John Banzhof at 8:09.

Anthoney Adamic (Selden, N.Y.) at 5:18 followed by an 11-yard rush from Gwaltney at 1:05 to give the Pioneers a 52-31 lead after three quarters.
Leading off the fourth, the Marauders scored their fifth touchdown when Shirk completed a 16-yard pass to Tischbein at 13:02.
The Pioneers closed out the game when Kroell kicked his second field goal for 38 yards at 5:30. From there, the defense took over, holding the keeping the Marauders on their own side of field before turning the ball over at the 50.
Junior linebacker
Matt Bright (East Meadow, N.Y.) led the defense with 11 tackles (4s, 7a) with a forced fumble while senior defensive back
Kurt Ellis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made eight tackles and intercepted a pass for 15 yards that led to a Pioneer touchdown in the second quarter.
Shirk finished the game completing 17 of 27 pass attempts for 300 yards and two interceptions for Millersville. Tischbein recorded 108 reception yards on seven catches with two touchdowns while Smith hauled in five passes for 139 yards. On the ground Jacks led the Marauders with 139 net yards on 25 carries with two TD's.
On defense, freshman defensive back Martique Vanderpool and freshman inside linebacker Ryan Christian each made 11 tackles for Millersville.
C.W. Post looks to extend its streak when it hosts its final home game against East Stroudsburg on Oct. 25 at 12 p.m. on Hickox Field.
