East Stroudsburg Rallies From Early Deficit To Hold Off Football; Kroell Sets New PAT Career Record

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2008) – East Stroudsburg University scored 35 points in the second quarter and held on to defeat C.W. Post, 48-42, in Saturday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference football action on Hickox Field.
The win improves East Stroudsburg to 7-2 overall with a 4-2 clip in the conference. The loss snaps a one-game win streak for C.W. Post as it slips to 2-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The Pioneers posted a 1-5 record on their home turf this season and will finish the season on the road against Kutztown University on Nov. 1 and Lock Haven University on Nov. 8.
Redshirt senior quarterback Tim Roken led the game in passing, completing 19 of 30 pass attempts for 343 yard and two touchdown passes with one interception. Redshirt senior Doug Ogden hauled in eight catches for 194 yards and one touchdown for the Warriors.
C.W. Post senior quarterback
Nick Georgetti (Holbrook, N.Y.) completed 27 off 44 pass attempts with one interception and finished his day with a career-high 330 passing yards and four touchdown down completions. The one interception came in the second quarter and was picked off by redshirt sophomore Matt Freed, who returned it for a 30-yard TD.
Senior kicker
Andrew Kroell (Baldwin, N.Y.) kicked six successful point after touchdowns to take over the career record of 148 successful PATs, passing Tim Wagner's record from 2000-02. Senior wide receiver
Paul Jennings (Jamaica, N.Y.) caught 11 passes for 117 yards and one touchdown.
In all, East Stroudsburg amassed 492 yards on 76 plays while C.W. Post tallied 470 yards on 78 plays.
East Stroudsburg scored in the first quarter when the third series of the game when junior kicker Greg Knauss kicked a 22-yard field goal through the uprights with 9:09 on the clock.
C.W. Post responded in the next drive when Georgetti completed a 17-yard pass to junior wide receiver

The Pioneers added to their lead in their next drive when Georgetti completed a 28-yard pass to Pettys on third-and-10 with 4:11 remaining in the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Warriors accumulated 191 yards on 13 plays and scored four unanswered touchdowns to lead 38-21 at the half.
At the start of the quarter redshirt senior tailback Joe Partridge rushed in from the C.W. Post 9-yard line at 14:13. East Stroudsburg's defense held the Pioneers to four straight downs before taking over on their own 46. From there, Roken completed a 29-yard pass to redshirt sophomore Jeff Giglio that brought the ball to the C.W. Post 25. Roken found Giglio again and fired a 25-yard pass for the TD that gave East Stroudsburg the lead for the remainder of the game.
C.W. Post cut the lead to 10 before the end of the half when Georgetti connected to senior wide receiver
Chris Harris (Islip, N.Y.) for a 12-yard touchdown reception.
With five seconds remaining in the half, East Stroudsburg scored its fifth touchdown of the game when Roken's pass that was intended for wide receiver Ed Kiser was tipped and picked up by Ogden for a 63-yard touchdown.
In the third quarter, the Pioneers started their drive off the opening kick and made good with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Harris from Georgetti with 12:56 on the clock.
East Stroudsburg answered with a 14-play, 68 yard drive that resulted in a 34-yard field goal from Knauss at 6:15.
C.W. Post threatened again in the fourth quarter and took possession when Knauss' field goal attempt was blocked and was recovered by sophomore defensive back
Juma McKenley (Bronx, N.Y.) at the C.W. Post 20 and returned it for 15 yards. The Pioneers marched downfield and advanced to the East Stroudsburg 5 after a 15-yard penalty was called on the Warriors' for an illegal block. The Pioneers scored on the next play when Gwaltney crashed through the defense and into the endzone to at 12:54.
The rally did not last as East Stroudsburg comforted its lead with its sixth touchdown, a one-yard rush from senior fullback Jesse Reider at 5:23.

Joe Perretta (Coram, N.Y.) was presented honored as the 2008 recipient of the Durrell “Bronko” Pearsall Award. Pearsall, a C.W. Post Alumnus and fireman, gave his life in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
C.W. Post will play at Kutztown University on Nov. 1 with kickoff slated for 1 p.m.
