Football Falls To Shippensburg, 27-10

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 4, 2008)
– Redshirt junior quarterback Chad DiFebbo threw for 206 yards and one touchdown as Shippensburg University defeated C.W. Post, 27-10, during Saturday afternoon Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference football action at Seth Grove Stadium.
 
With the win, Shippensburg improves to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Eastern Division while C.W. Post falls to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
 
In all, the Red Raiders totaled 417 offensive yards on 69 offensive plays and scored in each quarter. 
 
Shippensburg added its first score of the game in the first quarter when junior kicker Kyler Ford kicked a 27-yard field goal on fourth-and-two to put the Red Raiders on top, 3-0 with 10:35 on the clock.
 
C.W. Post, in its second drive of the game moved the ball from its own 47 yard line to Shippensburg's 29. But on the fifth play of the drive, Anthony Adamic rushed to the Shippensburg 33 only to be stripped of the ball by Jason Stone and Shippensburg recovered the ball at its own 27 yard line. 
 
The C.W. Post defense took possession of the ball at the start of the second quarter when sophomore defensive lineman Xavier Brown (Bay Shore, N.Y.) sacked quarterback Chad DiFebbo for an 11-yard loss at the CWP 38. On the next play, redshirt freshman #R.J. Kuhn#'s (Sayville, N.Y.) pass attempt to senior wide receiver Chris Harris (Islip, N.Y.) was called for pass interference against Shippensburg and the penalty advanced the Pioneers to the Red Raiders' 47. But C.W. Post could not make good on the opportunity and was forced to punt. 
 
The Red Raiders increased their lead in the second quarter when Chad DiFebbo completed an 81-yard pass to Brett Stoops, who ran in for the touchdown.
 
C.W. Post got on the board with 5:46 remaining in the second when senior kicker Andrew Kroell (Baldwin, N.Y.) kicked a 28-yard field goal. The Pioneers' drive started when sophomore defensive back Juma McKenley (Bronx, N.Y.) intercepted the pass at the CWP 35 and returned it to the Shippensburg 29. R.J. Kuhn completed a pass to Paul Jennings, who brought it down to the Shippensburg 1 before a holding penalty was assessed for 10 yards, pushing the ball back to the 11-yard line. An additional penalty for a false start was called on the next play, pushing the Pioneers back to the 16. Kuhn's next three pass attempts were incomplete and the drive resulted with Kroell's field goal. 
 
Shippensburg answered with its second touchdown of the game with 1:10 remaining before the half when Stoops plunged into the endzone from the CWP 4 as part of a 10-play, 69-yard drive. 
 
At the end of the half, the Red Raiders totaled 236 yards on 42 plays and held a 10-5 advantage in first downs. C.W. Post amassed 137 yards, including 85 on the run, on 30 plays. 
 
In the third quarter, Shippensburg added its second field goal of the game when Ford's 25-yard attempt passed through the uprights with 11:13 on the clock.

The Red Raiders missed out on another scoring play at the beginning of the fourth when Ford's third field goal attempt went wide left but later scored its third touchdown of the game when Stone intercepted a pass from Kuhn at the Shippensburg 37 and returned it all the way for 63 yards with 7:55 remaining in the fourth.
 
C.W. Post scored its only touchdown of the game in the fourth on third-and-goal when Kuhn completed a seven-yard pass to junior wide receiver #Ryan Pettys# (Long Beach, Calif.).  Kroell kicked the extra point and the Pioneers.  
 
Kuhn finished the game with 17 completed passes, matching a season-high set by senior Nick Georgetti (Holbrook, N.Y.) against American International. He finished the game with 159 passing yards and one touchdown while freshman quarterback Quillian Respass (Huntington Station, N.Y.) led the Pioneers in rushing with 47 yards.
 
Redshirt junior Kevin Marshall led the game in rushing with 108 yards on 16 carries for Shippensburg.
 
C.W. Post will remain on the road next week when it faces off at West Chester University on Oct. 11 with kick off set for 6 p.m.
