OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (April 12, 2008) - The 13th-ranked softball team swept a doubleheader from East Coast Conference rival New York Institute of Technology, edging the Bears in game one by a 1-0 count, and exploding for a 8-0 win in the nightcap.
The wins give the Pioneers an overall record of 26-11 and 11-1 in conference play. The Bears drop to 20-11 and 4-6 in the conference.
The first game was a pitching matchup between C.W. Post's
Samantha Yodowitz (Suffern, N.Y.) and NYIT's Nina Cesare. Yodowitz not only earned the win, throwing seven innings of four-hit, shutout ball, complete with five strikeouts, but she drove in the winning run in the sixth inning, plating
Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.) with a RBI single up the middle to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
Yodowitz made the lead stand as she won her 13th game of the season, and threw her fourth shutout of the year.

Kelsey Cooley (Syracuse, N.Y.) each had two hits in the win.
The second game saw the Pioneer offense pound out 12 hits, scoring eight runs while freshman starter
Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) blanked the Bears, allowing only four hits.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second, highlighted by doubles from
Holly Eringis (Tewksbury, Mass.) and
Katie Younes (Amesbury, Mass.).
They added another run in the third when Cooley tripled and scored on
Christie Softy's (Floral Park, N.Y.) RBI single, and scored again in the fourth on a Younes home run to left field.
Three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh capped the win for the Pioneers.
Younes led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance including two doubles and a home run, and Yodowitz and Eringis each had two hits in the win, with Yodowitz ripping her third homer of the season in the seventh inning.
The Pioneers complete their weekend with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 13, against regional foe Caldwell College. Game time is scheduled for noon.
