Softball Takes Two From Concordia; 7-2, 9-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 2, 2008) - The Pioneers swept an East Coast Conference doubleheader, defeating Concordia College by a score of 7-2 in game one, and winning 9-1 in a five-inning game two shortened by the mercy rule.
C.W. Post jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, when
Melissa Hippo's single scored
Amanda Aiello.
Two more runs in the second and one in the third, highlighted by
Katie Fisher's RBI double, gave the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.
They tacked on two more runs in the fifth courtesy of
Samantha Yodowitz home run to right field.
Concordia got two runs back in the sixth, but another Pioneer run in the bottom of the sixth pushed the lead back to five runs, and Yodowitz set Concordia down 1-2-3 in the seventh to close out the win.
Yodowitz improved to 9-5 on the year, allowing four hits and two runs in seven innings, while striking out 11 batters. She also drove in two runs at the plate.
Fisher went 2-for-3 with two doubles for the Pioneers, and Hippo also had a 2-for-3 day, including a triple.
Game two saw the Pioneers jump out to a six run lead after two innings, and led 8-0 after three.
The Clippers scored a run in the fourth, but the Pioneers tacked on another run in the fifth to push the lead to eight and end the game in the fifth due to the mercy rule.
Freshaman pitcher
Sarah Kiser pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out five batters. Yodowitz, Medina,
Ashley Marchese, and
Christie Softy each notched two hits in the game for the Pioneers.
Marchese ripped two doubles for the Pioneers, who also got doubles from
Jackie Dionne, Yodowitz, Softy, and Fisher.
The Pioneers travel to Dowling College tomorrow for an ECC match-up starting at 3 p.m.
