Yodowitz and Softy Earn ECC Weekly Honors
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (April 22, 2008) - For the third straight week, senior pitcher Samantha Yodowitz (Suffern, N.Y.) received East Coast Conference weekly honors, with Yodowitz earning Pitcher of the Week, along with Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.), who was named Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Yodowitz posted a 3-0 record with a 0.74 ERA (24.1 IP, 2 ER, 13 H), striking out 21, while batters hit just .153 against her. She also batted .409 at the plate, with four homers and nine RBI. She tossed two one-hit shutouts - against Bridgeport (5 K's) and UMass-Lowell (5 K's). She went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored against Southern New Hampshire, and went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored against Bridgeport.
Softy hit at a .433 clip on the week with 12 RBI, eight runs scored, and an .867 slugging percentage (2 2B, 3B, 3 HR). She went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI against both Bridgeport and Dominican. She went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run against Southern New Hampshire, sparking a comeback win by the Pioneers in the bottom of the seventh.
The Pioneers travel to Georgian Court for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, April 22, before returning home and hosting Queens College on Wednesday, April 23, at 3 p.m.
