Softball Cruises Past Merrimack; 7-2, 1-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 5, 2008) – C.W. Post team took two games from Merrimack College, 7-2 and 1-0, in a non-conference softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
C.W. Post improves to 21-10 and has now won its last eight games. Merrimack slips to 2-8 overall.
The Pioneers scored the game's first run in the first inning when shortstop
Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to right center to score pitcher
Samantha Yodowitz (Suffern, N.Y.) from second.
Merrimack responded in the top of the third with two runs on a single to left field off the bat of first baseman Jill Gagnon.
C.W. Post tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when senior second baseman
Katie Younes (Newbury, Mass.) doubled to left field to score senior

The Pioneers broke the game open in the fifth inning, putting up four runs on three hits, including a home run to left field from junior catcher
Melissa Hippo (Granite Bay, Calif.) and a two-run double to left field from sophomore right fielder
Katie Fisher (Boyertown, Pa.).
C.W. Post added one more run in the sixth when Hippo hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Yodowitz, who earlier had reached on a fielding error by the centerfielder and advanced to third on the play.
Yodowitz earned her 11th win of the season, going the distance and striking out 14 batters while allowing two runs on five hits. Senior pitcher Clarice Pepper took the loss for the Warriors, allowing four earned runs on four hits with one strike out and three walks.

Freshman
Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) pitched her fifth shutout of the season, allowing seven hits while striking out nine with one walk.
