Yodowitz, Berardi Earn ECC Weekly Honors
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (April 7, 2008) - The Pioneer pitching staff was honored with the weekly East Coast Conference awards, as senior pitcher
Samantha Yodowitz (Suffern, N.Y.) was named Player of the Week and freshman pitcher
Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) was named Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Yodowitz hit .320 on the week and drove in seven runs on eight hits, including a two-run home run, while scoring seven runs in a 7-1 week. In the pitcher's circle, she posted a 3-1 record with 40 strikeouts, including 14 K's against Merrimack.
Fellow pitcher Berardi recorded a 3-0 week posting a 0.43 ERA.. She surrendured just one run in 21 innings with two shutouts in three complete games. Against Dowling, Berardi tossed a two-hit shutout (3-0) with eight strikeouts.
The Pioneers continue conference play this week with meeting against New Haven and NYIT before closing out the week hosting Caldwell.
