C.W. Post Selected to Host NCAA Division II Softball Championship Northeast Regional

INDIANAPOLIS (May 1, 2008) - The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced its latest softball regional rankings Wednesday afternoon, and in doing so named the eight regional sites for the 2008 NCAA Division II Softball Championship. The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University has been selected to play host to the Championship's Northeast Regional, which will be held in Brookville, N.Y., from May 7-11.
The eight-team regional marks the third time that C.W. Post will host the regional, as the Pioneers hosted and won the 2007 event, advancing to the Division II College World Series for the first time in school history. The selection of the 64-team tournament field will be announced on Monday, May 5. In the Northeast Regional, the champions of the Central Atlantic Collegiate, East Coast, and Northeast-10 Conference tournaments receive automatic qualification to the Championships. Additionally, the next-five remaining teams from the final NCAA Regional Rankings will be selected for participation the tournament.
The winner of each regional advances to the May 14-17, eight-team championship round in Houston, Texas.
