BROOKHAVEN, N.Y.  (May 3, 2008)
– Senior Samantha Yodowitz (Suffern, N.Y) pitched a complete game as C.W. Post defeated Adelphi University, 2-1, in the East Coast Conference Softball Championship final game to claim its first championship since 2006.

Yodowitz was later named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

C.W. Post, which will advance and host the Division II Northeast Regional tournament beginning May 7, is the winner of seven straight games and improves its overall record to 44-14. The loss ends a 14-game streak for the Panthers as they fall to 40-19 on the season.

The visiting Panthers took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when junior third baseman Diana DiPiano dropped a bunt down and reached on a fielder's choice that scored senior centerfielder Dely Francisco from third base.

The Pioneers tied things up in bottom of the second when junior catcher Melissa Hippo (Granite Bay, Calif.) led off the inning with a walk and later scored when junior third baseman Megan Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) singled to left field.

The game-winning run crossed the plate in the fourth when Hippo scored on an error by the pitcher.

The Panthers threatened in the sixth inning when its first two base runners – Francisco and sophomore right fielder Katie Brophy reached on errors. Francisco later advanced to third on a ground out double play. The Pioneers got out of the jam when DiPiano grounded out to the shortstop.

Yodowitz allowed one earned run on two hits while striking out five batters. Hippo batted 1 for 2 at the plate and scored both of the Pioneers' runs. 

Senior Julie Schaper took the loss, pitching six innings and allowing one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts and five walks. Francisco went 1 for 3 at the plate with a run scored for Adelphi.
