Late Rally Not Enough As Football Falls To Edinboro, 31-7

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.
(Sept. 13, 2008) – Edinboro University scored four touchdowns and added a field goal to defeat C.W. Post, 31-7, in football action Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.
 
The Fighting Scots improve to 3-0 overall while the Pioneers slip to 0-3 on the season. 
 
Junior quarterback Trevor Harris completed 16 of 26 pass attempts for 290 yards and two touchdown passes.
 
Edinboro controlled the play clock for much of the second quarter as it put three TD's on the board, beginning with its first drive when redshirt freshman tailback Michael Battles hurried for an 11-yard rush into the endzone as part of a10 play, 73-yard drive. 
 
The Fighting Scots added another TD at 6:48 when Harris completed a 45-yard pass to sophomore wide receiver Josh Brown at the C.W. Post 45. 
 
C.W. Post's defense stepped up towards the end of the second and was able to force the ball over on downs and take over on its own 49. Senior quarterback Nick Georgetti (Holbrook, N.Y.) fired a 37-yard pass to senior wide receiver Chris Harris (Islip, N.Y.) and the Pioneers were in range of scoring at Edinboro's 11-yard line. But three plays later, freshman corner back Branden Williams intercepted a pass intended for junior wide receiver Ryan Pettys (Long Beach, Calif.) and returned it 100 yards for another Edinboro touchdown with 14 seconds remaining in the half.
 
The Fighting Scots led 20-0 at the half and scored in their first possession in the third on a five-play, 84-yard drive when Harris found senior wide receiver Rich Cerro for a 40-yard touchdown reception. 
 
Edinboro puts its final score up at the end of the third when freshman Alex Romanias kicked a 23-yard field goal at 3:37 to give the Fighting Scots a 31-0 lead.
 
C.W. Post scored in the middle of the fourth quarter when freshman defensive back Mike Tice (West Point, N.Y.) intercepted a pass from Edinboro quarterback Joe Wanson at the Edinboro 24. From there, sophomore tailback Jason Gwaltney (North Babylon, N.Y.) carried the ball three times for 21 yards down to the EDIN3. Junior fullback Anthoney Adamic (Selden, N.Y.) charged in for the TD. 
 
Edinboro completed the game registering 476 total offense yards, averaging 6.5 yards a play. C.W. Post totaled 279 offensive yards to average 4.2 yards a play.
 
Gwaltney carried the ball 22 times for a net gain of 77 yards. Georgetti completed 7 of 15 pass attempts for 101 yards while freshman Quillian Respass (Huntington Station, N.Y.) completed 3 of 8 pass attempts for 35 yards and registered 29 rushing yards.
 
C.W. Post heads out on the road and will play at Cheyney University on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
