Lock Haven Invitational: Volleyball Shuts Out Wilmington (Del.) 3-2; Falls To Shippensburg, 3-2
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2008) - The C.W. Post volleyball team came from behind to defeat Wilmington College, 3-2, before falling to Shippensburg University, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at the Lock Haven Invitational.
Against Wilmington, the Pioneers lost the first two sets by a score of 22-25 before coming from behind with three straight wins, 25-15, 25-5 and 15-13 in the final set. Against Shippensburg, the Pioneers were down 2-0 by identical scores of 16-25 before winning the next two (25-16 and 25-22) to force a fifth game, where they lost 15-9.
Freshman outside hitter
Laura Maehlmann (Gunderfingen, Germany) led the match versus Wilmington with 21 kills.
Against Shippensburg, senior setter
Lucia Krskova (Prievidza, Slovakia) registered 10 kills and 19 assists while junior middle hitter
Kerri Heitner (Wantagh, N.Y.) and
Maehlmann each contributed nine kills.
Maehlmann led the Pioneers with 21 kills and 10 assists in the win against Wilmington.
C.W. Post will host ECC rival Concordia College (N.Y.) on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
