Football's Fourth Quarter Drive Comes Up Just Short Against No. 10 Bloomsburg, 13-6

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 27, 2008) – Sophomore tailback
Jason Gwaltney (North Babylon, N.Y.) rushed for 133 yards and rushed in a nine-yard touchdown in the third quarter but No. 10 Bloomsburg University held on to win, 13-6, during Saturday afternoon Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference football action on Hickox Field.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the East Division. C.W. Post drops to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the East Division.
Bloomsburg record the game's first score – a 42-yard field goal from junior kicker Joe Koenig – during the Huskies' first drive in the first quarter.
The Huskies added a touchdown in the second quarter as part of a 5-play, 32-yard drive that culminated with a 12 yard completed pass from junior quarterback Dan Latorre to senior wide receiver Kyle Ream with 36 seconds remaining in the half.
At the half, the Huskies amassed 204 total offensive yards on 41 plays while C.W. Post totaled 114 on 29 plays. Gwaltney carried the ball 16 times for a net gain of 58 yards.
In their first drive of the third quarter, the Pioneers marched down the field from their own 36 and on their ninth play of the drive, scored a touchdown when Gwaltney charged in from the Bloomsburg 9 with 7:54 on the clock.
The C.W. Post defense kept Bloomsburg out of the end zone and forced the Huskies to punt during their first two drives. In its third drive, Bloomsburg gained 43 yards, beginning from its own 47, but could not score as Koenig's 27-yard field goal attempt missed wide left with 42 seconds remaining in the third.
Bloomsburg was able to add its second field goal of the game in its first drive of the fourth quarter when Koenig's kick was successful from the CWP 30-yard line.
C.W. Post came close to tying the score in the final drive of the game that began at its own 5-yard line. Gwaltney rushed for 14 while Georgetti completed a nine-yard pass to senior running back
Paul Jennings (Jamaica, N.Y.) that brought the ball to the Pioneers' own 19. Gwaltney carried for seven more yards and two plays later Georgetti connected to senior wide receiver
Curtis Coombs (Bronx, N.Y.). But with third-and three on the CWP 42, Georgetti's pass that was intended for Coombs was intercepted by senior defensive back Andre Ellis at the CWP 47.
Bloomsburg finished the game with 355 total offensive yards on 75 plays while C.W. Post recorded 270 offensive yards on 63 plays. The Huskies held a 21-17 advantage in first downs.
C.W. Post was 1 for 1 in red-zone chances while Bloomsburg was 2 for 4. The Pioneer defense held the Huskies to just eight third-down conversions out of 18 chances in the game.
Latorre completed 14 of 26 pass attempts for 133 yards and a touchdown while Georgetti was 7 for 17 with one interception for 80 passing yards.
