Swimming Starts Off 2009 With 64-55 Win Over East Stroudsburg

Buoyed by eight top-place finishes, the C.W. Post swimming team captured a 64-55 dual meet decision over East Stroudsburg University Sunday afternoon at the Pratt Recreation Center natatorium.

 
Senior Stephanie Palmeri (Seaford, N.Y.) took home a win in the 1000-yard Freestyle, pacing herself to a personal best time of 11:03.87. Freshman Amanda Preston (Newport, R.I.) followed second at 11:18.37.
 
Junior Brittany Roman-Green (Woodstock, N.Y.) won three events, including individual wins in the 50-yard Freestyle (25.34) and 50-yard Backstroke (28.25). She also swam clean up for the Pioneers as they won the first event of the meet – the 200 Medley Relay – as they outpaced the Warriors to the wall with a final time of one minute, 51.87 seconds. Senior Mariel Andersson (Brastad, Sweden), who led off for the Pioneers, later captured an individual win in the 100 Backstroke with a final time of 59:06. 
 
Freshman Marta Kristic (Rego Park, N.Y.) finished ahead of ESU's Chia Scoppetta in the 100-yard Freestyle (56.13).  She followed up with win in the 200 Free (2:00.08), which vaulted her to fourth on the school's all-time top-five list in the event. The Pioneers posted a 1-2-3 finish in the event as sophomore Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario) was second (2:03.11) followed by sophomore Sofi Mathsson (Stockholm, Sweden) at 2:13.14.
 
Cassidy claimed a win in the 100-yard Butterfly, touching the wall at 1:00.93. Palmeri was a close second at 1:02.01. 
 
C.W. Post will return to action Jan. 17 when the Pioneers face off in a dual meet at The College of New Jersey.
