Football Sinks Shippensburg With Six Touchdowns On Homecoming, 40-24

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2009)
– C.W. Post put on a show on Homecoming with six touchdowns as the Pioneers defeated the Shippensburg University Red Raiders, 40-24, in a Saturday afternoon Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference football clash on Hickox Field.
 
C.W. Post defeats Shippensburg for the first time in four tries and improves to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in divisional play. The loss snaps a four-game win streak for Shippensburg and drops the Red Raiders to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in division play.
 
The Pioneers recorded a 507-yard offensive output in the game, their highest since playing Millersville last season on Homecoming when they recorded 593 yards.
 
Freshman running back Thomas Beverly (Wyandanch, N.Y.) registered a season-high 170 yards with two touchdowns. Beverly's first TD run was for 47 yards in the first quarter to tie the game at 7-all followed by a 43-yard dash in the fourth quarter that put the Pioneers ahead, 28-24, and gave them the lead for the remainder of the game. Beverly's run total was highest in a game for a C.W. Post running back since senior Anthoney Adamic (Selden, N.Y.) ran for 268 yards against Merrimack College in 2007.
 
Junior quarterback Eric Anderwkavich (Queens, N.Y.) completed 14 of 24 pass attempts for 219 yards and connected twice for touchdowns. Anderwkavich helped the cause with a 33-yard run for the game's final touchdown with 3:22 left to play in the fourth.
 
Senior quarterback Chase DiFebbo (Phoenixville, Pa.) completed 14 of 41 pass attempts for 189 yards including two touchdown passes. Senior split end Mike Harris (East Earl, Pa.) caught seven passes for 112 yards, including a six-yard touchdown in third.
 
The Red Raiders scored during the first play of the game when junior defensive back Jeff Fertig (Harrisburg, Pa.) caught the ball on the opening kickoff and at the Red Raiders' 9-yard line and broke through the Pioneer defense for a 91-yard touchdown return.
 
Shippensburg regained the lead late in the first quarter when DiFebbo found senior tight end Mark Rossi (Johnstown, Pa.) for a nine-yard TD completion.
 
C.W. Post tied the game (14-14) with 7:27 to play in the second quarter when Anderwkavich snapped a three-yard pass to junior wide receiver Darnal Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.). The Pioneers boosted their when they scored their third touchdown of the game in the third quarter as senior wide receiver Chris Harris (Islip, N.Y.) hauled in a 52-yard pass from Anderwkavich.
 
Shippensburg rallied to tie the game up with 7:37 to play in the third as DiFebbo completed a pass to Harris as part of a seven-play, 69-yard drive down the field for the Red Raiders' third touchdown.
 
The Red Raiders went ahead in the game during their first series in the fourth quarter as senior kicker Tyler Ford (Bedford, Pa.) kicked a 30-yard field goal successfully through the uprights to give Shippensburg a 28-24 lead.
 
Beverly's TD followed in the next drive of the quarter when the Pioneers got the ball on their own 37 after kickoff. Beverly rushed twice for four and 16 yards to the Shippensburg 43. After an incomplete pass attempt, Anderwkavich handed the ball off to Beverly who then scurried past Shippensburg's defense en route to the endzone. 
 
Adamic also scored in the fourth on a 33-yard carry on 1st-and-10 with 5:31 left to play.
 
Sophomore defensive back Norman Smith (Jersey City, N.J.), senior linebacker Peter Manns (Dorchester, Mass.) and sophomore corner back Marquise Herron (Roosevelt, N.Y.) all led the Pioneer defense with seven takles. Smith also had an interception for 20 yards and a pass break up. Junior Xavier Brown (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made six tackles, including three for a loss of 15, and registered one sack for loss of 11 yards. 
 
Redshirt freshman fullback Kevin Herod (Allentown, Pa.) led the Red Raider offense on the ground with 84 yards on 18 carries. 
 
Defensively, junior linebacker Riley Bowen (Mansfield, Pa.) led Shippensburg with eight tackles while junior defensive back Travis Proctor (Columbia, Pa.), redshirt freshman defensive back Mike Loyd (Philadelphia, Pa.) and redshirt freshman linebacker Cody Flemming (Pennsburg, Pa.) each had seven tackles.
 
C.W. Post returns to action Oct. 10 to host West Chester University at 1 p.m. on Hickox Field.
