Football Expels Lock Haven, 27-15; Beverly Accrues Over 1,000 Season Rushing Yards

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2009) – Freshman running back Thomas Beverly (Wyandanch, N.Y.) rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns and in the process cleared over 1,000 yards for the season as C.W. Post defeated Lock Haven University, 27-15, Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.
C.W. Post concludes its season with a 6-5 overall record and its first winning record since 2006. Meanwhile the loss drops Lock Haven to 0-10 overall.
Beverly is the first rookie to rush for over 1,000 yards since Anthony Lazarus rushed for 1,494 in 2005. Beverly finished the season with 1,094 yards and 11 touchdowns.
C.W. Post registered 238 yards on 61 plays while Lock Haven put together 386 yards on 85 plays.
The Pioneers scored first with 2:45 remaining in the first quarter when redshirt freshman #Grayson Laurino# (Boise, Idaho) caught a 31-yard pass from junior quarterback Eric Anderwkavich (Queens, N.Y.).
C.W. Post tacked on another TD in the second quarter when Beverly broke for a 31 yard run into the Bald Eagles' end zone at 11:07.
Lock Haven got on the board late in the quarter when sophomore quarterback Shawn Faulk (Greensburg, Pa.) kept the ball for a quarterback sneak into the end zone with 12 seconds remaining that cut C.W. Post's lead to 13-7.
In the third quarter, Beverly scored his second touchdown at 9:36 when he took the handoff at the LHU 25 and ran it all the way into the end zone.
Lock Haven added two more points via a safety with 23 seconds remaining in the quarter.
The Bald Eagles further cut into the lead in the fourth quarter when Faulk scored his second TD of the game when he hurdled into the end zone from the CWP 1-yard line with 8:47 left in regulation as Lock Haven now trailed 20-15.
The Pioneers cushioned their lead when Beverly rushed in from the 1-yard line with 1:51 remaining to play.
Sophomore inside linebacker Billy O'Connor (Sayville, N.Y.) led the Pioneers defensively with 15 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. Senior linebacker Peter Manns (Dorchester, Mass.) added 13 tackles and two pass breakups. Senior captain Tayrance Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made 10 tackles and added a sack for loss of six yards, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry.
For Lock Haven, Faulk completed the game with 251 passing yards and added 29 on the ground. Senior wide receiver Micah Coleman (Evelid, Ohio) caught 10 passes for 83 yards and Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa.) made seven catches for 82 yards.
Senior defensive back Shane Barie (Export, Pa.) led Lock Haven with nine tackles and a pass break up and teammate Dean Tortorice (Delmont, Pa.) added eight tackles and a pass breakup.
Prior to the game, head coach Bryan Collins and the Pioneer staff honored its 11 graduating seniors: Manns, Smith, Detrick Belvin (Sarasota, Fla.), Chris Harris (Islip, N.Y.), Ryan Pettys (Long Beach, Calif.), Neil Lewis (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Matt Bright (East Meadow, N.Y.), Drew TenBruggencate (San Mateo, Calif.), and Dave McKasty (Brookhaven, N.Y.), Anthoney Adamic (Selden, N.Y.) and Vincent Velez (Staten Island, N.Y.).
