Men's Cross Country Takes 10th Place At NCAA Division II Northeast Regional
BOSTON, Mass. (Nov. 8, 2009)- The C.W. Post men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional in Boston, Massachusetts Sunday afternoon. The Pioneer women finished the day with an overall 16th place finish out of 25 teams, while the men finished 10th out of 26 competing institutions.
On the men's side, freshman David Johnson (Flushing, N.Y.) led the Pioneer squad, finishing in 43rd place out of a field of180 runners with a time of 33:54.0. Graduate student Vince Giambanco (Muttontown, N.Y.) followed shortly after Johnson in 52nd place, completing the course in 34 minutes and 15 seconds. Freshmen Raymond Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.) edged out fellow freshman Matthew O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.), as the pair finished in 71st and 72nd place, respectively. Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) kept on the heels of his teammates, finishing the race in 75th place at the 35:06.5 mark. Senior Thomas Brouillard (Syosset, N.Y.) was the final Pioneer runner to cross the line, as he took 98th place with a time of 36:03.4.
Senior Erin Lusenskas (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) was the first harrier to cross the line on the women's side for C.W. Post, completing the race in 55th place with a time of 25:25.7. Fellow senior Kristen Sweeney (Kennebunkport, Maine) and freshman Katherine Wilkens (Woodbury, N.Y.) were the next two Pioneer runners to complete the course, taking 80th and 83rd place, respectively. Freshman Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) took 95th place out of 162 competitors with a time of26:48.7. Senior Kristin Coscia (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) finished at the 27:04.5 mark in 100th place while Irekpitan Ehikoya (West Hempstead, N.Y.) rounded out the pack in 122nd place.
