No. 7 Softball Tops ECC Preseason Polls
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Feb. 17, 2009)- The East Coast Conference released its preseason softball poll today, placing the C.W. Post Pioneers in first place, as selected by the league's coaches.
C.W. Post received seven first-place votes with 96 points to top the poll. The Pioneers were followed by rival Adelphi University, who took the remaining three first-place votes and earned 86 points. Neighboring New York Institute of Technology was picked third in the poll.
The Pioneers finished a successful 2008 season with an overall record of 48-16 and 18-2 mark in the ECC. C.W. Post claimed the ECC regular season and championship titles, and captured the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional to advance to the NCAA Division II World Series, held in Houston, Texas.
Head Coach Jamie Apicella, in his 11th season, at C.W. Post looks to keep his Pioneers at the top of the conference as they head to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Bluefield State College in the first game of the Catawba Tournament.
