Swimming Finishes Fourth At Metropolitan Championships; NCAA Qualifiers Continue For Pioneers

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Feb. 20, 2009)
– The Metropolitan Collegiate Championships concluded Sunday and the C.W. Post swimming team finished fourth with 827 points in the 20-team field. In the process, the Pioneers continued to earn NCAA qualifying times.

The College of New Jersey was the overall winner with 1301.5 points, followed by Southern Connecticut State University (1175) and the University of Bridgeport (911.5).
 
Senior Stephanie Palmeri (Seaford, N.Y.) earned a “B” standard qualifying time in the 1,650-yard freestyle when she checked in third at 17:55.16.
 
Senior Mariel Andersson (Brastad, Sweden) placed second overall in the 200 backstroke with a final time of 2:06.02, earning a “B” qualifying standard in the process.
 
Meanwhile, sophomore Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario) took a second place finish in the 200 butterfly, finishing at 2:08.98 to also earn a “B” cut. 
 
In all, the Pioneers qualified in eight events and set three new school records (200 Medley Relay, 100 Backstroke, 200 Free Relay). 
 
C.W. Post will compete at the ECAC Championships to be held at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., Feb. 28-March 1. The NCAA Championships will be held in Houston, Texas March 11-14.
