No. 3 Men's Lacrosse Overpowers Assumption, 21-3

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 28, 2009) - Behind
Greg Cerar's (Farmingdale, N.Y.) four goal, three assist effort and
Dave Loftus' (Merrick, N.Y.) five goals, the second-ranked Pioneers rolled to a 21-3 victory over Assumption College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Hickox Field.
The Pioneers move to 3-0 on the season while the Greyhounds lose their opener and fall to 0-1.
Assumption was the first to put a point on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal from Kevin Klaskin, giving the greyhounds their only lead of the game with a 1-0 score. The goal lit a fire under the Pioneers, as they answered with a 16-1 run heading into halftime. The Greyhounds posted one more effort with 13 seconds let in the first half to bring the score to 16-2.
The second half proved to be too much for Assumption to handle, as C.W. Post held them to just one goal in 30 minutes of play.
Vito Minerva (Nesconset, N.Y.) tallied three goals for C.W. Post, and
Joe Meo (West Sayville, N.Y.) and
Matt Dimler (Long Valley, N.J.), each added two goals while
Thomas Giordano (Garden City, N.Y.) notched two goals and two assists for the afternoon.
Nicholas Coric (Walnut Creek, Cali.) dished out three assists to help the Pioneers to their win.
Junior midfielder
Mike Cama (Levittown, N.Y.) won 15 of his 18 faceoffs for C.W. Post. Overall the Pioneers went 23-28 off faceoffs.
Dan Sciulla (Merrick, N.Y.) earned the win with two saves in between the pipes to move to 3-0 on the season. Sophomore keeper
Michael Giordano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) also saw some time in net for the Pioneers making three saves and allowing one goal against for the afternoon.
C.W. Post outshot the Greyhounds 54-17 and held a 45-23 advantage in groundballs while causing 12 turnovers.
The Pioneers are back in action March 3 as they host Dominican College. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
