No. 3 Men's Lacrosse Powers Past St. Michael's, 18-1

KISSIMMEE, Fla.  (March 14, 2009) -
Attackmen Greg Cerar (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Dave Loftus (Merrick, N.Y.) combined to score seven goals and assist on six others as third-ranked men's lacrosse scored 18 unanswered goals to defeat St. Michael's College, 18-1, at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex on Saturday evening.  

The Pioneers improve to 5-0 on the season while  St. Michael's moves to 1-1.

The Purple Knights tallied a goal just 11 seconds into the first half as James Baghai's unassisted tally put the visitors up 1-0.  Loftus tied the game with a goal off a Cerar feed at 9:22 in the first quarter, and Mike Dimler (Long Valley, N.J.) notched an unassisted goal at 3:29 to put the Pioneers on top.  

A Nicholas Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif) goal opened up the scoring in the second quarter as Cerar was credited with the assist.  Another Cerar goal followed by another Dimler score made te score5-1, and the Pioneers would pile on four more goals to head into halftime witha 9-1 lead.

The strong offensive output continued in the second half as Cerar finished with three goals and five assists on the afternoon and Loftus ended the day with four scores and one assist.  Dimler added two goals and Joe Meo (West Sayville, N.Y.) and Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) also scored two apiece for the Pioneers.

Goalkeeper Daniel Sciulla (Merrick, N.Y.) made four saves in the net in earning his fifth victory of the season.  

Mike Cama (Levittown, N.Y.) was 11-for-15 on faceoff attempts and picked up a team-high seven ground balls.
