Men's Lacrosse Charges Past Dominican, 19-5

Brookville, N.Y. (March 23, 2009)- Twelve different Pioneers scored in an effort to bring C.W. Post past Dominican College by a 19-5 margin in the Pioneers' first conference game of the 2009 season Monday afternoon. The win propels C.W. Post to a 7-1 overall record, and 1-0 in the East Coast Conference. The Dominican Chargers fall to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Pioneers were led for the afternoon by senior Greg Cerar (Farmingdale, N.Y.). Cerar put C.W. Post on the board less than a minute into the game off a feed from sophomore Nicholas Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.). Cerar would strike again just over a minute later with an unassisted goal that put the Pioneers up by two. He then assisted teammate Matt Dimler (Long Valley, N.J.) to take advantage of a man-up situation just before the finish of the first quarter. Cerar finished the afternoon with a total of three goals and one assist to put his personal tally at 27 goals and 21 assists for a total of 48 points this season.

With a 7-0 lead into the second quarter, C.W. Post continued its scoring fury as Brad DeSouza (Trumbull, Conn.) found the back of the net. He was shortly followed by sophomore James Johnston (Farmingville, N.Y.) who notched his second unassisted goal of the afternoon. Dominican midfielder Gabe Sutherland netted a goal to bring the Pioneers down to an eight goal lead.

Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) scored two back to back goals to give the Pioneers a 15-1 cushion. Dimler scored his second goal of the game to close out the half and give C.W. Post a 16-1 lead.

C.W. Post tallied three goals in the second half, including the second of two goals for freshman Ralph Pepe (East Quogue, N.Y.). Pepe capitalized on a man-up situation with 8:53 left in play to cement the Pioneer's 19-5 win and close out the afternoon.

Keeper Michael Giordano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) earned his first personal win of the season in net for the Pioneers making two saves and allowing one goal against in 30 minutes of play. Drew Smith (East Hampton, N.Y.) finished the afternoon between the pipes for C.W. Post with two saves and four goals against. Dominican goalie Brendan Bonacum made 16 saves while allowing seventeen goals for the Chargers before being replaced by teammate Tim Manzella who made one save and allowed two goals against.

Midfielder Mike Cama (Levittown, N.Y.) went 14-1 for the afternoon on faceoffs, while freshman Andrew Madsen (Arden Hills, Minn.) went 8-1 to help the Pioneers hold a 25-2 margin on faceoffs for the afternoon.

The Pioneers outshot Dominican 50-13 while holding a 39-12 edge on groundballs.

C.W. Post will be back in action March 28th as they host Southern New Hampshire at noon.
