WALTHAM, Mass. (March 7, 2009) – Senior attacker
Greg Cerar (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) scored five goals and added an assist to lead third-ranked C.W. Post over Bentley University, 18-7, in a non-conference men's lacrosse tilt Saturday afternoon.
The win improves C.W. Post to 4-0 this season while Bentley opens the season with its first loss.
Senior attacker
Dave Loftus (Merrick, N.Y.) added three goals while sophomore attacker
Nicholas Coric (Walnut Creek, N.Y.) registered three assists.
Cerar scored the game's first goal at 13:55 as the Pioneers fired in five unanswered goals to open the first quarter. Bentley scored its first goal when Wyatt Couture found the back of the net on a feed from Steve Murray.
The Pioneers continued to run away with the game and opened up the second quarter with seven unanswered goals – three scored by Cerar.
The Falcons registered their goal of the game in the third quarter when Steven Moulton scored on a man up with Andy Curtis assisting on the play. C.W. Post answered back with four more goals to lead 16-2 at the end of the third.
Freshman attacker
Ralph Pepe (East Quogue, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman attacker
Thomas Giordano (Garden City, N.Y.) each scored a goal in the fourth.
Bentley recorded the game's last four goals, including two from the battery of Brendon Grant and Kevin Gould.
C.W. Post outshot Bentley 35-25 and held a 22-17 advantage in ground balls. Senior goalkeeper
Daniel Sciulla (Merrick, N.Y.) made 10 stops in goal to preserve the win.
C.W. Post resumes action when it heads south to Orlando, Fla., for a two-game set against Queens College of North Carolina (March 11) and Saint Michael's College (March 14).
