GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (April 11, 2009)
– Sophomore midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.)  registered a hat trick and sophomore attacker Nicholas Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.) added two goals and two assists to propel No. 2 C.W. Post past Adelphi University, 13-7, Saturday evening in East Coast Conference men's lacrosse.
 
C.W. Post improves to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the ECC while Adelphi slips to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
 
The Pioneers outshot the Panthers, 52-31, while Adelphi held a 25-22 advantage in ground balls.
 
Danny Blau staked the Panthers to a 1-0 lead on a feed from Eddie Ege on a man-up opportunity at 12:36 in the first quarter. The Pioneers tied the game up shortly after when Messina fired a shot into the cage and went ahead seven minutes later with a goal from senior attacker Greg Cerar (Massapequa Park, N.Y.). 
 
C.W. Post took a 3-2 lead into the half after Messina's second goal was scored in the second quarter.
 
The Pioneers proceeded to outscore the Panthers, 4-0, in the third quarter to take a 7-2 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
Blau scored his second goal of the game at the start of the fourth to cut C.W. Post's lead to 7-3.
 
The Pioneers answered with five unmatched goals, including two from senior attacker Matt Dimler (Long Valley, N.J.). 
 
Adelphi mounted an offensive attack with 3:22 remaining in regulation to score the game's final three goals as Blau added his fourth goal followed by two goals from Ian Kuchta and Joe Vitale. 
 
Senior attacker Dave Loftus (Merrick, N.Y.) registered a goal and two assists in the game.
 
Senior Daniel Sciulla (Merrick, N.Y.) made 16 saves for the Pioneers.
 
 Blau led the Panthers with four goals and added an assist.
 
C.W. Post returns to action when it hosts Mercyhurst College April 18 at 12 p.m.
