Football Captures First Win Of 2009 With Shutout Over Cheyney, 51-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2009) – The C.W. Post football exploded for 523 offensive yards and seven touchdowns en route to a 51-0 victory over Cheyney University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division contest Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.
C.W. Post improves to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in division play while Cheyney drops to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in division play.
The Pioneers last shut out an opponent on Hickox Field on Sept. 6, 2003 with a 34-0 victory over Assumption College.
Junior quarterback Eric Anderwkavich (Queens, N.Y.) completed 11 of 14 passes for 127 yards and four touchdowns.
The Pioneers scored their first of seven touchdowns in the game when junior wide receiver Andrew Kell (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) caught a 23-yard offering fromAnderwkavich with 12:03 remaining in the first quarter.
The Pioneers dominated the second quarter, scoring 31 points that totaled 225 offensive yards. Freshman kicker Justin Bertone (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) kicked a 28-yard field goal attempt through the uprights to start the scoring at 12:21 and just over a minute later senior outside linebacker Tayrance Smith (Brookyn, N.Y.) recovered a 70-yard fumble and returned it for a touchdown at 11:15. Senior wide receiver Chris Harris (Islip, N.Y.) hauled in a 17-yard pass from Anderwkavich at 3:25. Junior receiver Darnal Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) caught two touchdown passes in the quarter at 8:18 and at the 5-second mark.
Smith went on to score his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter when the ball was knocked out of redshirt sophomore #R.J. Kuhn#'s (Sayville, N.Y.) hands at the Cheyney 1-yard line and he recovered it in the endzone with 55 seconds left on the clock.
The Pioneers scored their final touchdown with 12:54 remaining in the fourth quarter as senior running back Anthoney Adamic (Newfield, N.Y.) took off for a 21-yard sprint.
Freshman running back Thomas Beverly (Wyandanch, N.Y.) toted the pigskin 19 times for a gain of 143 yards.
On defense, Smith led the Pioneer squad with eight tackles (1s, 7a), including two tackles for loss on top of the fumble recovery.
For Cheyney, senior running back Ron Hunter (Chester, Pa.) led the offense with 54 yards on six carries. Freshman quarterback Malik White (Bear, Del.) was completed 1 of 5 attempts for 14 yards.
Senior defensive back Demel Chambers (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the defensive unit with 15 tackles (8s, 7a) for the Wolves.
