Smith's Efforts Against Cheyney Earn PSAC East Defensive Player Of The Week Honors
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 20, 2009) – Senior outside linebacker Tayrance Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Sunday.
Smith recorded eight tackles and returned a fumble recovery 70 yards for a touchdown in helping the Pioneers record a shutout of Cheyney with a 51-0 victory. His eight tackles included two for a loss. Early in the second quarter, with the Pioneers holding just a 9-0 lead and Cheyney nearing the red zone after a long rushing pickup, Smith scooped up a fumble by Dominic Crowell and took it back 70 yards for the score to put C.W. Post up 16-0.
Later in the game, in the third quarter, Smith also fell on a fumble in the end zone while playing on offense for his second TD of the day.
To date, Smith has registered 17 tackles (7u, 10a), including two for loss and a fumble recovery.
