IUP Offense Strikes Early, Runs Past Football, 27-14

– Freshman running back Thomas Beverly (Wyandanch, N.Y.) rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns but it was not enough as Indiana University of Pennsylvania came away with a 27-14 win over C.W. Post in a Saturday afternoon football clash at George P. Miller Stadium.
 
Indiana (Pa.) wins its second straight contest of the season to improve to 2-0 while C.W. Post drops to 0-2. The Pioneers stay on the road to play at Edinboro University on Sept. 12 at 1 p.m.
 
Senior quarterback Andrew Krewatch (Pittsburgh, Pa.) completed 18 of 35 pass attempts for 200 yards and two touchdowns for the Crimson Hawks.
 
The Crimson Hawks scored during their first series on account of a 50-yard field goal from junior kicker Craig Burgess (Medina, Ohio) as part of a seven-play, 50-yard drive. 
 
The Crimson Hawks would add a touchdown in their first series of the second quarter that began at the 50-yard line and culminated with a five-yard touchdown pass from Krewatch to sophomore wide receiver Roy-al Edwards (Media, Pa.) with 13:31 left to play.
 
Burgess kicked his second field goal of the game from 40 yards out with 53 ticks left on the clock to give the Crimson Hawks a 20-0 lead heading into the half.
 
At the half, the Crimson Hawks accumulated 238 offensive yards on 40 plays, including 82 rushing yards from junior running back Tobias Robinson (Lebanon, Pa.). C.W. Post amassed 148 yards on 34 plays.
 
IUP continued its offensive drive in the third quarter and regained possession on a punt return when junior wide receiver Andrew Kell (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) fumbled the ball at the CWP 17. The ball was snapped up by IUP's Manny Cutlip (Beaver, Pa.). 
 
The Crimson Hawks made good on the opportunity as Krewatch snapped a four-yard pass to junior wide receiver Javon Rowan (Erie, Pa.) in the endzone for the Crimson Hawks' third touchdown of the game.
 
The Pioneers broke up IUP's pace and with 38 seconds remaining in the third quarter and scored their first touchdown of the game when Beverly rushed 31 yards into the Crimson Hawks' endzone. 
 
Beverly scored the Pioneers' second TD during their first series in the fourth quarter from the IUP 1-yard line when he when soared over the defensive pile and into the endzone with 7:27 left to play in the fourth. 
 
Later in the fourth quarter, the Pioneers attempted to close the gap and advanced the ball down to the IUP 17. But on third-and-seven, Anderkavich's pass attempt for an endzone completion was picked off by senior defensive lineman Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (Columbus, Ohio) as the Crimson Hawks gained back possession to close out the final seconds of the game.
Senior linebacker Cosie Spigelmeyer (Northumberland, Pa.) and defensive back Andre Henderson (Erie, Pa.) each made nine tackles for IUP.
 
The Pioneer defense was led by senior outside linebacker Tayrance Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with nine tackles and freshman outside linebacker Sean Smith (Farmingdale, N.J.) with eight. Junior defensive lineman Xavier Brown (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made two sacks accounting for 17 yards.
 
Junior quarterback Eric Anderwkavich (Queens, N.Y.) completed 16 of 30 attempts for 135 yards with one interception.
