Volleyball Splits "Dig-Pink" Tri-match, 0-3 and 3-2

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2010) – C.W. Post spilt today's two match, as the Pioneers dropped the first match of the day to conference foe Dowling, 0-3 (15-25, 23-25, 16-25), and then bounced back with a thrilling 5 game match win over American International (25-23, 14-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-10). The Pioneers now are at 17-9 on the year, and drop to 4-4 in conference play. Dowling also defeated American International in the second match of the tri-match
The Golden Lions of Dowling seemed to be too much for the Pioneers from the beginning, as the Golden Lions hit .241 for the match. Dowling was led by senior Monika Kasperek who hit an impressive .667 in the match, accumulating 10 kills on 15 attempts. Junior Maja Potpara also tallied 10 kills, as she .450 on the match. Potpara also assisted on 18 kills and played stellar defense with 13 digs to give her a triple-double for the match.
For the Pioneers, sophomore
Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.) tied with Kasperek and Potpara for the game lead in kills with 10. Senior setter
Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) contributed 26 assists, while freshman libero
Stephanie Coufal (Littleton, Colo.) led the team in digs with 18.
C.W. Post would be spectators for the second match of the day, as Dowling would defeat American International by way of sweep as well.
The third and final match of the tri-match would feature both teams looking for a win. Both C.W. Post and American International came out on all cylinders as the first set would go back forth before the Pioneers would prevail in the end. American International would come right back though, for in the second set they won more convincingly over the Pioneers. American International would also take the third set and C.W. Post would take the fourth set, leading to a pivotal fifth game. C.W. Post would jump out to a quick lead and not look back, fighting off any American International come back and taking the final set and the match, 3-2.
Senior Marilena Guadaganini would be the key player in this match, as she notched her 11th double-double on the year. The senior outside hitter would put up a team high 15 kills along with 16 digs. Ostapow would once again be critical to the Pioneer attack, as she put up 45 assists in the match. Also, Coufal led the Pioneers in digs once again with 18 digs.
The Pioneers will be back in action again right away tomorrow, as Northeast 10 conference contender Stonehill will come into the Pratt Recreation Center for a 2 p.m. match.
