Tenth Sweep on the Year Helps Volleyball Push Past Stonehill, 3-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2010) – C.W. Post Volleyball now moves to 18-9 on the year with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 34-32) sweep of non-conference opponent, the Stonehill Skyhawks. Senior
Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Pioneers with her 14 kills.
The first set would be the easiest game victory for the Pioneers, as the team tallied 18 kills while hitting .348 as a team. Guadagnini used a .500 hitting percentage to gather five of her 14 kills in the first set. Freshman
Jordan Schroer (Kailua, Hawaii) also hit .500 in the set, tallying four kills.
Guadagnini and Schroer would tie for the lead in kills in the second set with fellow Pioneer teammate, sophomore
Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.), as each of the individuals had four kills in the second set. Stonehill would end up tying the match at 11 points each after the Pioneers had an early lead. The Skyhawks then took the lead at 15-16, but eventually saw the Pioneers come back and take a 20-19 advantage. C.W. Post would not relinquish the lead from there, ending the game with a 25-21 victory.
The third and final set turned out to be the deepest set the Pioneers have played all year as the final, game winning point would not be reached until the score was 34-32. No team ever went up by more than a two point advantage, pushing and grinding all the way to the Pioneer victory at the 34
th point. The final point would come on the block of an attack attempt by senior Skyhawk Laura Noonan. Guadagnini and freshman
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) would gather the assists together on the block.
In the end, Guadagnini's 14 kills would be the game-high for all participants. Schroer would end the game with 11 kills and Fisher added eight kills along with 16 digs. Senior setter
Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) continued her solid season with another outstanding assist column on the stat sheet, as she ended the match with 42 assists. Freshman libero
Stephanie Coufal (Littleton, Colo.) would lead the team in digs with her total of 22.
For the Skyhawks, Noonan led the team with 10 kills, with three other teammates contributing nine kills each. Senior setter Andrea Wirth led the team with 29 assists.
The next Pioneer match will be a strong conference tilt against NYIT on Oct. 28. C.W. Post will travel down Northern Blvd. to the campus of NYIT this Thursday for a 7 p.m. match.
