OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2010)
– The dominance couldn't continue for C.W. Post, as the last three sets went to the NYIT Bears in the match victory 1-3 (25-11, 36-38, 22-25, 20-25). Senior Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) notched her 12th double-double of the year for C.W. Post.

The Pioneers looked dominant in the first set, with an 18-4 lead after being tied 7-7 with the Bears and went on to clinch the set victory. Freshmen Shayla Hixson (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) made up six of the team's nine kills in the set, as they both tallied three each. Senior Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) assisted on seven Pioneer kills. C.W. Post also blocked five NYIT attacks in the set, as Ostapow and freshman Jordan Schroer (Kailua, Hawaii) each tallied one solo block, as well as assisting on another.

A 25-point victory would not be enough for these two teams in the second set, as the score would go back and forth all game until NYIT pulled out the victory at a 38-36 score. The Bears totaled 28 kills in the set, led by seven kills on the part of freshman Kelly Brown. Fellow freshman Shelby Cable contributed six kills, as did junior Tugce Sirdas. Guadagnini put down six of her 12 kills in this set, leading the Pioneers. Schroer would add four kills, while Ostapow put together 15 assists.

NYIT won the third set on the back of forcing 10 Pioneer attacking errors, allowing C.W. Post to hit a -.026 in the match. Four service aces for the Pioneers still were not enough, as junior Ali Falbo led the Bears with four kills.

The fourth set ended to be the game clincher for the Bears, as the team took the match by five points (20-25). Cable and Falbo teamed to each put down five kills for NYIT.

Cable ended the match with a game-high 15 kills, while Sirdas added a double-double with her 13 kills and 11 digs. Junior Damla Albayrak led the team in assists with 48, while 25 digs would be the team-high by junior Lisa Peacock.

For the Pioneers, Guadagnini accomplished her 12th double on the year coincidentally with 12 kills and 12 digs. Ostapow ended the match 37 assists, four assisted blocks, and one solo block. Namahoe also ended the match with four block assists, as the team totaled nine team blocks. Sophomore Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.) took the Pioneer lead in digs, as she totaled 14.

The Pioneers will be in action again on Tuesday Nov. 2 for the final home game on the year. Mercy will come into the Pratt Recreation Center for a 7 p.m. match.
