Tennis Earns Hard Fought Win Over UDC, 6-3

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 3, 2010) – The C.W. Post tennis team defeated the University of the District of Columbia Sunday afternoon, 6-3, in an East Coast Conference match.
 
C.W. Post improves to 3-5 overall with a matching record in conference play. UDC drops to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in ECC action.
 
Junior Aysylu Mardanova (Moscow, Russia) defeated sophomore Ty Abilla (Galloway, N.J.) in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1. She combined with sophomore Katie Avelar (Woodbury, N.Y.) in No. 2 doubles to defeat the tandem of Abilla and freshman Fanasia Nolan (Washington, D.C.), 8-3/
 
Avelar earned a win in No. 4 singles over Nolan, 6-2, 6-1. Senior Kristin Hetiler (East Rockaway, N.Y.) picked up her second win of the year in No. 5 singles by defeating junior Aida Gueve (Alexandria, Va.) by a clean sweep, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Dorine Sousa (Carle Place, N.Y.) was also victorious as she defeated sophomore Clarice Melvin (Fort Washington, Md.) in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
 
Hetiler and Sousa finished the day by capturing a win in No. 3 doubles by defeating Gueve and Melvin, 8-0.
 
C.W. Post is back in action on Monday, Oct. 4 when it plays a non-conference match on the road against former conference rival, Adelphi University.
