Football Falls To No. 13 Bloomsburg, 36-16

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2010) – Senior quarterback Erik Anderwkavich (Queens, N.Y.) passed for 209 yards and two touchdowns but it was not enough as C.W. Post fell to 13th-ranked Bloomsburg University, 36-16, in a PSAC East football showdown Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.
Bloomsburg improves to 8-1 overall and remains unscathed in the division with a 6-0 record. C.W. Post loses its second straight contest and drops to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the PSAC East.
Bloomsburg spotted itself a 10-0 lead through the first quarter when quarterback Pat Carey completed a five-yard pass to Andre Morales at 12:31. The Huskies added another score late in the quarter when Dan Fisher drilled a successful 41-yard field goal attempt through the uprights.
Fisher would lead the Husky offense with a school record five field goals in the game, including two more in the second quarter that put Bloomsburg ahead, 16-0.
C.W. Post got on the board with 4:30 to play in the second when Bloomsburg was called for a holding penalty from its own 3-yard line that resulted in a team safety for the Pioneers.
Fisher kicked two more field goals in the third quarter at 10:35 and 7:18 that boosted Bloomsburg's advantage to 22-2.
The Pioneers responded with its first touchdown of the game at 1:03 when Anderwkavich threw a soft pass to senior wide receiver Darnel Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) from the BU 2-yard line and cut the deficit to 22-9 and giving the Pioneers life late in the game.
The rally would not hold as Bloomsburg shut the door with two more touchdowns , beginning with a 42-yard pass from Carey to Cory Stiger at 14:50 and a three-yard run from Franklyn Quiteh at 3:46. 
C.W. Post added one score in the quarter when freshman Joe Botti (Holtsville, N.Y.) grabbed an offering from Anderwkavich and pulled it down for a 19-yard touchdown pass at 10:32.
Botti led the receiving corps with four catches for 54 yards and a touchdown while freshman running back Jeff Mack (Bronx, N.Y.) carried the ball six times for 34 yards. 
Williams completed the game with six catches for 33 yards and a touchdown. 
Junior inside linebackers Ronnie Modik (Levittown, N.Y.) and Billy O'Connor (Sayville, N.Y.) each registered 12 tackles. Modik also added a forced fumble.
Carey completed 7 of 18 pass attempts for 119 yards and two touchdowns for the Huskies. Quieteh led in rushing with 137 yards on 25 carries with one touchdown.
Mike Varanavage led Bloomsburg's defense with 11 tackles as well as a 10-yard sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Prior to the start of the game, head coach Bryan Collins and the coaching staff honored its 2010 seniors: Anderwkavich, Williams, Andrew Kell (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Aaron Hall (Mt. Laurel, N.Y.), Xavier Brown (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Juma McKenley (Bronx, N.Y.), Dan Perry (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.), Paul Stoltz (Smithtown, N.Y.), Ryan Contee (Charlestown, R.I.), Kenny Reid (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Will Strano (East Patchogue, N.Y.), Hasan Radoncic (New York, N.Y.) and Andrew Wellington (New York, N.Y.).
At halftime, Modik was honored by the Hempstead Fire Department with the Durrell “Bronko” Pearsall Award, given annually in memory of C.W. Post Alumnus Bronko Pearsall, who heroically gave his life in the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001. 
C.W. Post is back in action next week when it travels to play at Cheyney University for a 1 p.m. start.
