Tennis Disposes Of NYIT, 8-1; Pioneers Clinch ECC Playoff Spot

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2010) – The C.W. Post tennis team closed out its conference schedule with an 8-1 win over New York Institute of Technology, 8-1. In addition, the Pioneers clinched the final spot in four-team East Coast Conference Championships and will face top-seeded Queens College on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 2:30 p.m.

Junior Lejla Heco (Malmo, Sweden) defeated Alexana Gaspari in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0. Heco combined with junior Aysylu Mardanova (Moscow, Russia) to capture a win in No. 2 doubles, 8-1. Mardanova recorded a win in No. 3 singles against Sarah Vivonetto, 6-0 6-0.

Junior Morgan Milleisen (Bayport, N.Y.) captured a win in No. 2 singles against Alexis Beaumont 6-3, 6-3 and also won in No. 1 doubles along with sophomore Katie Avelar (Woodbury, N.Y.), 8-1. Avelar won her No. 4 singles match against Rebecca Stein 6-3, 6-0.

Sophomore Dorine Sousa (Carle Place, N.Y.) furthered the winning cause with a win in No. 6 singles against Amanda Szollosi 6-2, 7-5. Sousa and senior Kristin Hetiler (East Rockaway, N.Y.) closed out the match with an 8-0 win in No. 3 doubles.
