Volleyball Dominates Against Mercy with 3-0 Sweep
DOBBS FERRY (Oct. 7, 2010) – The Pioneer Volleyball team swept Mercy, 3-0, tonight in dominating fashion (25-19, 25-14, 25-11). C.W. Post's attack was led by sophomore
Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.), who tallied 11 kills. The Pioneer record improves to 14-6 on the year, with a 2-2 conference mark.
Fisher enjoyed a .391 hitting percentage, putting together her 11 kills on 23 attempts with only two errors on the night. Many of Fisher's attacking set ups came from senior teammate
Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.). The senior setter contributed 24 assists to the Pioneer offense, while also tallying 7 service aces, a season-high. On the night, the team totaled 42 kills and 34 assists.
Freshmen
Shayla Hixson (Honolulu, Hawaii) and
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) each put together 8 kills, continuing their outstanding freshman campaigns.
For the Pioneer defense, the team totaled 47 digs led by the 16 digs freshman libero
Stephanie Coufal (Littleton, Colo.) compiled. C.W. Post also forced 11 attacking errors on the part of Mercy, with the Mavericks only converting .110 percent of its attacks.
Freshman outside-hitter Nicolette Gebhardt (Middletown, N.Y.) led the Mavericks in kills with nine, hitting a .304 percent. The Mercy defense also forced 13 Pioneer attacking errors and put together 37 digs on the evening.
C.W. Post will step out of conference play on Friday night Oct. 8, as the Pioneers will host non-conference rival Adelphi at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y. for a 7 p.m. match. Mercy will be on the road as well, playing at Bloomfield on Saturday Oct. 9.
