BROOKVILLE, N.Y.
(Oct. 8, 2010) – C.W. Post dropped a non-conference 5 game match to rival Adelphi tonight, 3-2 (28-26, 21-25, 18-25, 25-17, 12-25). Senior setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) came up with a season-high 54 assists, while sophomore Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.) had the game-high in kills with 19.

Ostapow came up with a good portion of her assists in the first set, where the Pioneers pulled out a grueling 28-26 win. Ostapow put together 16 assists in the set, with Fisher gaining five kills and senior Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) putting down four kills.

The Adelphi Panthers would take the next two sets, taking a 2-1 set lead in the match, putting the pressure on the Pioneers to force a fifth game.

Senior outside hitter Hilary Pavels (North Woodmere, N.Y.) finished the match with a team high 15 kills, as well as also compiling 13 digs to give her a double-double. Another Panther also had herself a double-double, as sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Overholt (Centrevilla, Va.) had 12 kills along with 21 digs. Senior setter Heather Mau (Honolulu, Hawaii) may have put together the most impressive stat line on the night however, helping out her teammates with 37 assists and also playing solid defense with game-high 25 digs to give herself a double-double.

The Panther defense also watched 33 attacking errors and 9 service errors on the part of the C.W. Post offense.

The Pioneers would fight back to force a fifth game, but the effort would fall short as they would fall to the Panthers in five games. Along with her 19 kills, Fisher also added 16 digs to give her one of the three double-doubles for the Pioneers. Ostapow and Guadagnini were the other players to achieve double-doubles, as Ostapow added 12 digs to her 54 assists and Guadagnini combined her 12 kills with 23 digs. Guadagnini shared the team-high in digs with freshman libero Stephanie Coufal (Littleton, Colo.).

The Pioneer record now drops to 14-7 as the team jumps back into conference play with a home match against conference foe Bridgeport this Tuesday, Oct. 12. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Pratt Recreation Center.
