Football Scores Seven Touchdowns, Cruises Past Millersville, 49-21

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2010) – C.W. Post scored seven touchdowns to defeat Millersville University, 49-21, in PSAC East football action Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.
C.W. Post wins its third straight and improves to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC East. The Pioneers have won their last seven PSAC East contests dating back to the 2009 season and are off to their best start in division play since joining the conference in 2008. Millersville's record dips to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in division play.
It was the highest scoring output for the Pioneers since their 51-0 win over Cheyney University on Sept. 19, 2009, which was also played on Hickox.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with touchdown runs from sophomore running back
Thomas Beverly (Wyandanch, N.Y.) and senior quarterback
Erik Anderwkavich (Queens, N.Y.).
C.W. Post won the coin toss prior to the start of the game and deferred to Millersville. The Marauders picked the ball up at their own 30 after kickoff and moved the ball to the Pioneers' 23 before losing possession on a fourth down sack against quarterback Bill Shirk by junior inside linebacker

The Pioneers stole the ball again during the Marauders' second series when senior defensive back
Juma McKenley (Bronx, N.Y.) picked off a throw from Shirk at the Pioneers' 25 and returned it 55 yards to the Millersville 20. From there, Anderwkavich completed a 10-yard pass to senior wide receiver
Darnel Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) before rushing in on the next play from the 10-yard line.
In the second quarter, C.W. Post scored its third touchdown with 2:55 on the clock when Anderwkavich completed an 18-yard pass to junior tight end
Andre Davis (Piscataway, N.Y.). The Pioneers scored again when Modik picked up a Millersville fumble caused by freshman safety
Chris DiIorio (Holtsville, N.Y.) at the C.W. Post 45 and returned it all the way for a 55-yard touchdown.
At the half, the Pioneers had amassed 251 yards, including 159 rushing.
Millersville got on the board in the third quarter after recovering the ball in C.W. Post's previous series at the C.W. Post 23 and scored on a completed pass from Shirk to Jamal Smith from the 11-yard line.
The Pioneers responded immediately and scored in the next drive when freshman running back
Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) rushed in for a one-yard run to boost the Pioneers' lead to 35-14.
The scoring continued for C.W. Post in the fourth quarter as the home team scored two more touchdowns, beginning with a 29-yard pass from Anderwkavich to Williams at the start of the quarter.
The Marauders followed up with a 1-yard run from Shirk to cut C.W. Post's lead to 42-21.
But the Pioneers' lead increased again when sophomore defensive back
Ciwan McCoy (North Babylon, N.Y.) returned Millersville's kickoff for an 82-yard sprint into the endzone with 9:09 left on the clock.
Anderwkavich completed 13 of 20 pass attempts with one interception for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
Williams caught seven passes for 87 yards and one touchdown and Davis hauled in three catches for 42 yards.
Beverly led the game in rushing with 67 yards on 21 carries and one touchdown and Anderwkavich added 60 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown.
Junior inside linebacker
Billy O'Connor (Sayville, N.Y.) led the Pioneer defense with nine tackles and senior defensive end
Xavier Brown (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added four solo tackles and two sacks for a loss of 17 yards. Also highlighting the defense was junior defensive lineman
Abrom Shepard (Staten Island, N.Y.), who had a 12-yard sack and senior defensive lineman
Ryan Contee (Charlestown, R.I.) who had an 8-yard sack.
Shirk finished the day completing 24 of 43 pass attempts with three interceptions for 255 yards and a touchdown.
Fateem led the team in rushing with 47 yards on 14 carries. Jamal Smith finished the game with five catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Gary Tillman led the squad with 10 tackkles and Pat Cantrell recorded four tackles and a 4-yard sack.
C.W. Post returns to action when it hosts East Stroudsburg on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. as part of Homecoming festivities.
