INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (Nov. 14, 2010) – Coach
Shellane Ogoshi and the C.W. Post women's volleyball team will enter the NCAA Tournament as the number five seed in the East Region of the tournament bracket. This is the first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2007 for the Pioneers. The tournament field was announced during the live selection show on Sunday night.
The Pioneers will be playing the number four seed Adelphi of the Northeast-10 Conference. During the year, the Pioneers and Panthers battled on October 8 at the Pratt Recreation Center to a five game match. Adelphi came out with the win, edging out C.W. Post 12-15 during the last set. Sophomore
Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.) was impressive during the loss, putting down 19 kills, while senior setter
Amanda Ostapow had her season-high in assists with 54 in the five sets.
The match is set to take place November 18 at Dowling College, who earned the number one seed in the East Region after defeating Bridgeport Saturday Night for the ECC Championship. Dowling will be taking on the number eight seed Caldwell in one first round match, with the winner playing the winner of the Adelphi/C.W. Post match. Other first round match ups in the region include number three Bridgeport taking on number six American International and finally, New Haven will be taking on conference foe Pace in the number two versus number seven matchup.
C.W. Post will be looking to advance to the second round on the back of ECC All-Conference Second Team members, senior
Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and freshman
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii). The two are the top attackers on the team, combing on 623 kills during the year.
The time of match was determined to be 7:30 p.m., the last match of a full day event at Dowling.
