Vote Mike Messina Preseason Player of the Year
BALTIMORE (Nov. 23, 2010) – Lacrosse Magazine is giving fans the chance to vote for the Preseason Player of the Year in all divisions. On the Division II Men's Lacrosse ballot is C.W. Post senior midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) who looks to earn a third straight NCAA National Championship as a member of the Pioneers.
This past season, Messina was named to the USILA Second Team All-American Squad, after being an Honorable Mention in 2009. He was also named to the 2010 East Coast Conference (ECC) All-Conference Second Team. His career accolades also include being chosen as both the ECAC and the ECC Rookie of the Year in 2008.
Individually, Messina tallied 18 goals and nine assists last season as a junior while scooping up 21 ground balls for the 16-1 Pioneer squad, including a goal in the national title game against Le Moyne on May 30. During his first two seasons, Messina scored 23 goals and added 11 assists in 30 games off the bench.
Also up for the title as Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Player of the Year are midfielders Matt Chadderon of Le Moyne and Chris Cudmore of Mars Hill, as well as attackman Jack Harmatuk, also of Le Moyne.
