BRIDGEPORT, CONN.
(Nov. 5, 2010) – C.W. Post Volleyball was not able to make the comeback against the Bridgeport Purple Knights as the Pioneers dropped the match 1-3 (20-25, 20-25, 25-17, 18-25). Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) accomplished her 13th double-double during the match with 16 kills and 15 digs.  Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) also went over the 1,000th assist of the season mark during the game.

The Purple Knights looked to put the Pioneers away early, as Bridgeport jumped out to an early 11-2 lead. C.W. Post tried regaining momentum with three separate 3-0 spurts, however the early Bridgeport lead and the play of senior Terry Masava was enough for a Purple Knight victory, 20-25. Masava was able to collect 10 kills in the first set alone. For the Pioneers, Guadagnini accumulated a .500 hitting percentage while tallying five kills. Senior Sammy Figliolia (Wantagh, N.Y.) added four kills to the Pioneer attack.

Guadagnini matched her kill number and hitting percentage from the first set during the second set, helping the Pioneers during the middle of the set to cut into the Purple Knight lead with a 7-2 run. However, Bridgeport used a 7-2 run of its own to defeat the Pioneers 20-25. Graduate Student Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin led all participants in the second set with 7 kills, hitting .357.

The third set was a game of runs on each side, as the Pioneers refused to go down in just three sets. C.W. Post jumped out to an early 9-3 lead in the set behind two kills each during the early part of the set by Figliolia and sophomore Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.). Masava added another three kills to her match as she helped the Purple Knights during a 6-0 run to tie the game at 9-9. The Pioneers then used a team effort with kills and service aces to go on an 8-1 run to take the lead 17-10 and not looking back as the team finished off the set with a 25-17 win. Figliolia finished the set with four kills while hitting a percentage of .571. The Pioneers as a team also did not make an error on any attacking attempts, hitting .317 as a team.

Masava and Bridgeport once again put the Pioneers into an early hole, as the Purple Knights jumped out to an 8-1 lead to start the fourth set. Later in the set though, the Pioneers used a 6-0 to get back in the game, spearheaded by three attacking errors on the part of the Purple Knights and two kills by Delfs. However, Bridgeport used one final run to close out the set and match, as the team went on a 5-0 run to take the set 20-25, taking the set and match from C.W. Post.

Masava completed her outstanding match with a game-high 28 kills, by far the most by any player. Kovacevic-Jurasin and fellow graduate student Agatha Baliddawa each finished the match with 14 kills and junior setter Tamara Leite contributed 51 assists to the Purple Knight offense. Five different Bridgeport players went into double-digit digs, led by sophomore Taylor McBeth's 19.

For C.W. Post, Guadagnini's 16 kills led the team, with Figliolia being the only other Pioneer to reach double-digit kills with her finishing 13 kills.  Ostapow paced the Pioneer offense with 39 assists while also going over the 1,000th assist mark on the year.

The Pioneers now move to 5-6 inside ECC play, while dropping to 19-11 overall. Bridgeport improves to 22-3 and 11-1 in the ECC. C.W. Post will move onto the final regular season match up of the season, when the team travels to Queens College on Tuesday Nov. 9.
