Volleyball Reaches 20th Win of the Year Behind 3-0 Sweep of Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2010) – C.W. Post women's volleyball ended its regular season schedule with a 3-0 road sweep (25-15, 25-13, 25-20) of Queens. Senior
Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) led the team with an all around game in her last regular season game as a Pioneer.
Ostapow got off to a quick start during the first, putting together eight assists as the Pioneers would take the set 25-15. Freshman
Shayla Hixson (Honolulu, Hawaii) used a .600 hitting percentage to help lead the hitters on the team with three kills. C.W. Post compiled an 11-5 run to end the set.
Eight assists once again was the mark for Ostapow during the second set, however she also added three kills to her totals on the back of a .750 hitting percentage. Junior
Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.) also accumulated three kills during the set to help lead the team along with Ostapow. A 12-5 run in this game was enough for the squad to keep Queens down with a 25-13 set win. The Pioneer defense also played well on the defensive side with three total team blocks along with forcing seven Queens' errors on the attack to take the set 25-13.
The final set on the night was the most competitive, as the match went back and forth up until the 14
th point. Queens looked like it had the momentum when the team used a 3-0 run to go up 17-14. The Pioneers fought back to tie the game and then some as the squad used a 7-0 run to take control of the game at 21-17 and did not look back, taking the set and game. Ostapow once again hit .750 during the match and accumulated three kills, while also putting together two service aces. Senior
Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) also contributed two service aces to the Pioneer set victory.
Ostapow ended her night with 22 assists, eight digs, six kills behind a .750 hitting percentage, and three service aces. Hixson and Delfs each led the team with seven kills, with freshman libero
Stephanie Coufal (Littleton, Colo.) leading the team in digs at a 15 mark.
The Pioneers now finish the regular season 6-6 in the East Coast Conference, while also hitting the 20th win plateau, ending the season at 20-11. C.W. Post now qualifies for the ECC Playoffs as the number four seed, and will the play the number one seed Dowling at NYIT on Friday, Nov. 12.
