BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 16, 2010) – C.W. Post head softball coach Jamie Apicella has announced the captains for the 2011 season. The team will be led by seniors Sarah Kiser (Arnold, Md.)  and #Christina Berardi# (Raynham, Mass.) along with juniors Kristen Morcone (Milford, Mass.) and Kendall Bright (Manlius, N.Y.).

C.W. Post was 41-16 overall last season and qualified for the NCAA Championships for the ninth straight year.

Kiser is a two-time ECC First Team selection and was the 2009 ECC Pitcher of the Year. She posted a 21-8 overall record last season, striking out 238 batters in 183 innings pitched.

Apicalla on Kiser: “Sarah has grown as a player and leader here at C.W. Post.  Her intelligence, success, experience and respect from her teammates make a great choice as captain for the second year in a row.  Sarah has an uncanny knack for balancing her academics and softball.  She is one of our top students and sets a positive example on how to approach her schoolwork, softball and life to our younger players.”

Berardi appeared in 28 games in 2010 and posted a 9-4 record with three shutouts and three saves.

Apicella on Berardi: “Christina is an individual who has a commanding presence on our team.  She knows how to motivate her teammates and has matured to the point where she understands what it takes for a team to be successful.  Her teammates admire that she is an emotional leader who wears her passion for the game on her sleeve.”

Morcone has been a solid catcher for the Pioneers over the last two seasons. She saw action in 23 games last season and made 13 starts behind the plate.

Apicella on Morcone: “Kristen brings the same intensity and enthusiasm for the game every day.  She is one of our vocal leaders that is always positive and looks to get the best out of her teammates on a daily basis.  Kristen is highly respected by her teammates and is always looked upon to motivate and bring a sense of toughness and focus to the team.”

Bright played in all 57 games and made 56 starts last season, mainly at second base. She batted .296 with 48 hits, 24 RBI and 30 runs scored for the Pioneers.

Apicella on Bright: “Kendall is one of our fearless leaders who goes above and beyond to prepare herself and her teammates for the long season ahead of us.  Her preparation and commitment level is second to none.  She continually strives to be the best she can be and tries on a daily basis to inspire her teammates to have the same approach.  Her mental toughness is one of her strongest qualities as one of our leaders.”
