Softball Voted To Lead ECC In 2010; Softy, Kiser Receive Top Preseason Honors
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Feb. 12, 2010) – The C.W. Post softball team received seven first-place votes to lead the eight-team East Coast Conference preseason poll. In addition, senior shortstop Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.) was selected Player of the Year and junior Sarah Kiser (Arnold, Md.) garnered Pitcher of the Year honors.
The Pioneers finished the 2009 season with an overall record of 34-18 and a 13-5 record in the East Coast Conference along with the 2009 ECC Championship Title. The Pioneers advanced to the NCAA East Regional for the eighth straight year. In 2010, C.W. Post has been ranked 18th in Division II in the NFCA preseason poll, and is the only ECC Team to crack the Top 25.
Dowling College received one first-place vote and was second in the poll, followed by New York Institute of Technology, Molloy College and Queens College. Mercy College, University of Bridgeport and St. Thomas Aquinas rounded out the poll.
Softy is a three-time NFCA All-Region First Team Selection and a three-time ECC All-Conference First Team Selection. In 2009, Softy compiled a .354 batting average, scattered 57 hits, scored 31 runs, and had 47 RBI, 16 doubles and 11 homeruns. She amassed a .658 slugging percentage and a .409 on base percentage.
In 2009, Kiser made 29 appearances and totaled 156 innings pitched for an overall record of 18-4. She boasted an ECC leading 1.03 ERA while compiling 178 strikeouts and recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts on two occasions. For her outstanding performance, Kiser was named to the 2009 Daktronics All-East Region Second Team, the ECC All-Conference First Team and was tabbed the ECC Pitcher of the Year.
C.W. Post opens its season March 7 and will play a 10-game slate as part of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
