ECC Selects Seven Pioneers For Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (May, 12, 2010) – The East Coast Conference released its men's lacrosse all-conference teams and C.W. Post garnered seven selections, including two First Team selections.
Senior defender Richard Schmidt (Hicksville, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Mike Cama (Levittown, N.Y.) were both named First Team.
Senior defenders Joe Blount (Inwood, N.Y.) and Bryan Leonard (Yorktown, N.Y.), senior midfielder Joe Meo (West Sayville, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) were named Second Team and junior attacker Nick Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.) received Honorable Mention.
Schmidt, a two-time All-ECC selection and Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American, has 19 caused turnovers and 38 ground balls on defense and also scored a goal earlier this season against Dowling.
Cama, a two-time All-ECC selection and USILA All-American, leads the nation on face-off win percentage (.717) and ground balls (174).
Blount, a two-time All-ECC selection and USILA All-American, has 21 caused turnovers this season and 22 ground balls. He was also credited with an assist earlier this season against Dominican.
Leonard is a three-time All-ECC selection and two-time USILA All-American, has helped contribute to one of the top defensive units in the nation. He has caused 14 turnovers and picked up 29 ground balls this season.
Meo is second in points on the team with 39 (36g, 3a), including 13 man-up goals. On eight occasions this season, he has scored at least three goals.
Messina has scored 17 goals with eight assists this season for the Pioneers. He has caused eight turnovers with scooped up 20 ground balls.
Coric is second overall in points with 23 goals and 44 assists. He also has four caused turnovers and 22 ground balls to his credit.
C.W. Post (14-1, 8-1 ECC) qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year and will host Dowling in the semifinal round on May 22 on Hickox Field at 12 p.m.
