The Bears scratched out two runs in the top of the second inning when senior third baseman Brooklynn Fields (Aurora, Colo.) belted a two-run homer to centerfield.
NYIT added two more in the top of the fifth inning first on an infield fielding error and then a single from senior centerfielder Anna Hernandez (Tuscon, Ariz.).

Senior shortstop
Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with two hits, including a double down the left field line that broke the school's career double record previously held by Jill Fisher since 2007.
