Republican Herald: Miller, Post prep for big season
KUTZTOWN - C.W. Post head coach Bryan Collins has a plan.
And he's hoping Pottsville grad Mike Miller helps execute that plan to perfection.
Collins' Pioneers are entering their third year in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and are eyeing their first PSAC East title.
Miller, a 6-foot-5, 275-pound junior, is one of five returning offensive lineman for C.W. Post, which won its final six games of the season a year ago and has high aspirations entering the 2010 campaign.
"We have every starter back at that position," Collins said at last week's PSAC East Media Day at Kutztown University. "The base of our team when we had it going at the end of last season is back, and Mike is a big part of that.
"Our first year was a feeling-out process coming from the Northeast 10. Our second year, we started to get familiar with the other teams and get comfortable with ourselves in this conference. This year, we want to win the PSAC title."
Miller is one of 16 area graduates on PSAC East football rosters this fall, and the only one at C.W. Post, which went 3-8 in 2008 and 6-5 (5-2 PSAC East) a year ago.
The 2007 Pottsville grad spent a year at Milford Academy before going to C.W. Post. He saw playing time as a freshman, then moved into the starting lineup at guard a year ago.
Collins said he'd like to move Miller out to right tackle this year.
"We think he gives us good size, and we'd rather have that length that he gives us out at the right tackle spot," Collins said. "Coming in, I thought being a young guy that he would be more comfortable playing a guard position.
"This year, for us to get maximum out of our offensive line, if he could be a tackle, his more natural position, it would be more beneficial to us."
