(Sept. 17) – The Pioneer volleyball team used both offense and defense to help secure a win tonight at Merrimack College, 3-1 (25-18, 26-14, 17-25, 25-17). Freshman Jordan Schroer (Kailua, Hawaii) registered her first collegiate career double-double in the win, as she notched 11 kills and 11 digs.
Schroer was part of a Pioneer attack that totaled 47 kills on the evening. Along with Schroer's 11 kills, fellow freshman Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) led the team in kills with a total of 14. Senior Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) was once again the main distributor for C.W. Post, as she contributed 40 assists to the Pioneer offense.
Merrimack did edge out C.W. Post in the kill category by 2, 49-47, led by senior outside hitter Molly Cindric with 14. However, the Pioneers were able to turn defense into points as they tallied 9 total blocks on the night. Namahoe and Schroer were once again the category leaders for blocks, as they each assisted on five and four team blocks respecitively.
C.W. Post also turned away many Merrimack attacks with 62 digs. Freshman libero Stephanie Coufal (Littleton, Colo) led the Pioneers with 25 digs.
The Pioneers record now improves to 7-3 on the season entering play on Saturday. C.W. Post will take part in a double-header, part of the NE-10/ECC Challenge in Waltham, Mass. The two games will be against Bentley (10 a.m.) and UMASS Lowell (1 p.m).
