Volleyball Takes Two from NE-10 Teams Bentley, 3-1, and UMass Lowell, 3-2

WALTHAM, MASS.
(Sept. 18, 2010) – C.W. Post women's volleyball completed a 3-0 sweep against the NE-10 conference in the NE-10/ECC Challenge this weekend. After defeating Merrimack last night, the Pioneers were able to defeat Bentley this morning, 3-1 (25-14, 17-25, 25-23, 25-18), and UMass Lowell later on, 3-2 (25-12, 25-19, 24-26, 15-25, 15-8).
The outstanding play of freshman Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) continued today, as she led the Pioneers in kills in the first match against Bentley with a total of 11, hitting on .458 percent of her attacks. To that effort, she also added 4 service aces and 7 digs to her stat line. She would once again find many her attacks assisted by senior Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.), who totaled 34 assists in the match. Senior Marilena Guadagnini had a strong effort as well, as she contributed 8 kills and 13 digs to help push past the Falcons of Bentley. 
In the second game of the day, the Pioneers jumped out to an early two games to none lead against UMass Lowell. However, the Riverhawks would stage a furious comeback, taking the third set 26-24 and the fourth set 25-15. In the end though, the Pioneers would come out victorious with the fifth set win. 
Guadagnini and Namahoe were once again the catalysts behind the Pioneer attack, as they both registered double-doubles. Guadagnini would finish the match with a team best in kills, 17, and also contribute towards the defense with 16 digs. She also added 4 service aces to her numbers. Namahoe would add 12 kills to her season total, while also matching that number in the dig category.
Ostapow would also add a double-double to the game, as she played contribute again with 46 assists, as well as digging out 10 Riverhawk attacks. Freshmen Shayla Hixson (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Stephanie Coufal (Littleton, Col.) played vital roles for the Pioneers today. Hixson would add 11 kills and Coufal defended well, contributing 18 digs. 
With these two games completed, the Pioneers' record now stands at 9-3 going into tomorrow's match. The volleyball team will host another NE-10 school, LeMoyne, in a non-conference battle. The first set is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in the Pratt Recreation Center.
