BROOKVILE, N.Y.
(Sept. 19, 2010) – After taking a two set lead on the Dolphins of Lemoyne, volleyball would have to stop a comeback made by the Dolphins. The match would go to five sets, with the Pioneers coming out victorious, 3-2 (25-18, 25-17, 20-25, 23-25, 15-7).

The Pioneers looked sharp in the first two sets, jumping out too early leads in both sets. Senior Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, N.Y.) came out strong in the beginning, finishing the day with a double-double, 12 kills and 16 digs. Also finding herself in the mix once again was senior Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.), who would be the overwhelming lead distributor in the match with 53 assists. She also added 10 digs, giving her a double-double on the day as well.

Sets three and four would see the Dolphins come back in a furious fashion behind the play of
sophomore Allison Hebel (Greenlawn, N.Y.), who would finish the day with 14 kills and 14 digs. She would be joined in the double-double category by fellow sophomore Bethany Fabian (Lake View, N.Y.) who added 11 kills and 10 digs. Another Dolphin Sophomore would have a strong match, as Morgan McDermott (Camillus, N.Y.) would end the game with a .500 hitting percentage (14-2-24).

The Pioneers would prove to be too much though, as sophomore Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.) would lead the team in kills with 19, as well as adding a hitting percentage of .516. She also contributed nine digs to the team total of 79. Freshman Stephanie Coufal (Littleton, Colo.) led the team in digs with 26. Fellow freshman Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) would keep up her stellar play, as she added 12 kills.

Freshman Shayla Hixson (Honolulu, Hawaii) contributed good offense to the Pioneer attack, as she ended the day with eight kills and four service aces, part of nine aces for the team.

With this game completed, the Pioneer record now improves to 10-3, and the Dolphins will drop to 5-4. C.W. Post will be back in action as they start East Coast Conference play on the road against the Lions of Molloy on Sept. 23.
