Namahoe Earns Second Straight Rookie of the Week Honors
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2010) – Volleyball's freshman middle blocker Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) has earned East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week. Namahoe comes off a week where the Pioneers went 4-1 and have improved to an overall record of 10-3.
During the week, Namahoe averaged 2.5 kills per set with a hitting percentage of .259. Her kill numbers reached double-digits in four straight matches during the week, in which three games they were game highs. In a 3-2 win against UMass Lowell on Sept. 18, Namahoe registered a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. In that same day, the middle blocker hit a week high.458 with 11 kills against Bentley in a 3-1 victory. She also would add six service aces during the week, as well as contributing on the defensive side of the ball with 13 block assists and 34 digs.
For her efforts in the NE-10/ECC Challenge, Namahoe earned Co-MVP honors with Dowling junior Maja Potpara (Pljevlja, Montenegro).
Namahoe and the Pioneers will begin East Coast Conference play this week, as they travel to Molloy College on Sept. 23. The next home match will be Oct. 5 against New York Institute of Technology.
